Brian Post #10

So, more on George and Lennie's relationship. Even though they are friends, it's pretty obvious that George is the leader here. He's also kind of a parent to Lennie. I wonder if maybe Lennie didn't have parents. That would explain why he is still very childish his mental disability. Anyways, it seems that even when they have huge arguments, they eventually come back together. Maybe it's because it's so easy for George to convince Lennie. Friendship is another theme here in this book. They've got dreams, and what poor guy wouldn't. It's a little out proportion, but that's the whole point of a dream.
There's a part where George tells Lennie to come back to the river if there's any trouble. That just foreshadows the future. There's bound to be trouble waiting for them now, why else would the plot require them to have some sort of place they could come back to if anything happened.
Candy's name is awfully ironic since he's pretty much nothing like candy.

Well, we're on a new book and based on the great reviews of this book, I think it's going to be another great read. The previous book, The Absolutely True Story of a Part Time Indian,  introduced some pretty intersting and impacting themes, and this one has already started out with one from the previous book; poverty. The only difference here is that the situation is much more severe, but it was a different time. Speaking of different time, despite the similar theme, the setting is much more different. It is a different time and place, so there is a definite difference here.
So, the two main characters were introduced. Lenny and George are different in many ways, but opposites attract. They do have some similarities though. They're both in the same financial and social situation. More notably and importantly are the differences though. I think Lennie is the result of bad a child with mental issues that went through bad parenting, but this is a different time and mental disabilites weren't really recognized scientifically, so he was probably just rasied normally. At leas George is there to right him. The "petting" Lennie does scares me. He's killed somethings before. I would hate to be a little animal on the receiving end of his "petting". I feel bad for Lennie though, he just doesn't know what's wrong and it's not completely his fault.
